If you are one of the few people riding up Upper Javelina, be aware that the bee's nest just below the Golf Club Saddle is quite active. I have been attacked a few times up there now, especially later in the morning when it warms up.
If I was standing today where I was taking this photo, I would have been stung a few dozen times, as would Martin. He would not be smiling...

It is on the uphill side of the last left hand switchback before the saddle. I usually stop and look from switchback 9 just below, to see if they are around. You can usually see a few buzzing around the crack in the rocks there. if there are more than one or two, I will either HAB and cut the turn, or get off, hold my breath, and tiptoe past! Bees are attracted to your CO2 emissions, so if you hold your breath, they may not be interested.
I have been stung a few times there now, once I got about 5 stings and it was not pleasant... It's also not fun trying to out run them with your bike, holding your breath...
